The Nightmare Cooperative is a strategic adventure where you lead a group of unlikely comrades through some rather difficult situations. Your village has fallen on hard times (due to some rather reckless spending by the Village Council) and it’s up to you to bring back some gold. In game design-speak, The Nightmare Cooperative is a roguelike - randomly generated levels means every playthrough will be different, and you'll always have to start at the beginning, no matter how well (or badly) you did before. Your score is the amount of gold that you pickup during your journey. Opening crates gives you extra gold, but releases more monsters. Meanwhile, you move your whole group using a single set of controls, so each move needs to be considered very carefully indeed. A number of different monsters will meet you along the way. You'll have to learn their characteristics, and take advantage of your party's varying powers, to progress along your journey.
The game started out as a small prototype which featured the key gameplay mechanic moving of a number of different characters with the same controls. We found this to be a really fun puzzle, and started adding more and more features - before we knew it, we were working on our next game. The Nightmare Cooperative is out now on Steam, Humble, or Itch, for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It will be released for iPhone and iPad (universal) on 28 August 2014, followed shortly by Android.
